When you take a first look at Africans, Europeans and Asians, you can easily tell the difference between them, this is as a result of their race. The use of technology by the various races differ, so I’m going to tell you why women in Africa don’t value technology
Africans are popularly known as Negros and are known for their strength, African fathers and mothers had always believed in hard work. But over the recent years, the new African generations have grown flair for the internet and technology.
Although some African parent have wholeheartedly welcomed technology and acknowledge its importance, yet there are many African women who still don’t value technology.
In this article, I am going to share my views and express my concern because I believe technology is a way into the future and our African mothers should start seeing it that way.
Current statistics shows that African has a total of about 333,965,359 internet users and a population of 124,568,500 Facebook users, Nigeria leading with an estimate of 9,292,699,924 internet users and over 150,000,000 Facebook users.
Currently in Africa there has been a great increase in mobile data usage. Forecast reveals that between 2014 – 2015, there has been a double increase in mobile internet traffic through out Africa.
Back to the question: “why African mothers don’t value technology”.
1. Technology is a money devourer
Majority of African women see technology as a burden they need to do away with.
a mother of a 16 years old recently told me.
“I give Jerry, my son a weekly allowance of
N10,000, I learnt recently that this money is all being spent on ordering gadgets from Jumia and Alieexpress. For the past 3 months he hasn’t been eating well in school and worst of all is that he sees no other activity worth his pocket money”
Mindless behaviors like this had made many mothers see technology is a money devourer.
2. Cause of Health problems
You know there is one thing African women are good at and that is the ability to see negative impacts of things more than the positive impacts.
Many children suffer from some health problems like back pain and week eyesight as a result of increasing usage of gadgets.
3. Poor Academic performance
The academic performace of their children has drastically reduced due to the presence of technology. Children waste their valuable time on these gadgets without worrying about their studies. Hence resulting in the poor academic performance.
4. Impact in writing skills
The writing skills of many people have been negatively affected by technology as Standard English is no longer used in text messaging and chatting. People write text messages and no one is bothered about punctuations and spelling. This has caused poor writing skills in children.
I will conclude with my own point of view
I see technology as something vital and serves as a medium of education as well as communication and entertainment. Although there are negative impacts but let’s also take a look at the positive impacts.
Technology is educative:
It has been proven that technology can educate children in getting detailed knowledge about any topic from the web.
Improve competition skills
Many children like to play video games, and when they do this with friends and relatives, they earn the competition skill.
The competition skills learn’t from the video games help them compete in the real world.
Technology must be used in the right way so that our mothers will find pleasure in them as well.
