The International Trade Commission (ITC) has just issued a ban on the importation of a number of personal transporters that violate Segwage recommendations relating to self balancing technology.
The federal agency mention that the hoverboard or any similar balancing device that goes against the Segway’s copyright will be stopped from entering the country for sale.
Segway is well know for its two wheeled electronic device, they recently tweeted a brief statement about the order but did not give room for additional comment.
The General Exclusion Order is particularly significant because it blocks importation of all products from all sources that infringe a broad patent covering Segway’s [personal transporters]
Majority of companies producing hoverboards are from foreign countries, this order will surely affect their sale in the US unless something else is done to favor the situation. ITC carried out an investigation and mentioned 13 companies including PowerUnion, Inmotion, FreeGo Chine, Uptech, U.P. Robotic, Robstep and U.P technology.
Before now, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission carried out an investigation and concluded that Hoverboards are unsafe and users are advised to carry fire extinguishers nearby.
Not a single hoverboard has been allowed into the country until it is deemed safe again.
